Diamonds for engagement rings and other jewellery
The weight is measured in carats, one carat being equal to 200 milligrams and, all other things being equal, the heavier a stone the more expensive it will be.The final quality, which is determined by man as mentioned earlier, is how a diamond is cut. A skilled jeweller can cut a stone with many well-proportioned facets. The better the cut the more light it will reflect and hence look more appealing. There are also different shapes that result from the cut such as round and pear-shaped stones.Christopher Rowles.A flaw is known as an inclusion and could be a tiny crystal or mineral inside the gemstone, a crack in the structure or grain line that occurred as the stone was formed. Some inclusions affect light as it passes through the stone whereas others make it more fragile and prone to shattering. Neither of these is usually seen as desirable. The quality that you might think would be the easiest to judge is often quite difficult to evaluate unless you are looking at two very different stones, and that is the weight of a diamond.
